On Persistence, Mindfulness, and Skateboarding

There are unsaid or underrated benefits to skateboarding and it’s time they were shared. First, you should know that most elements of skateboarding are not easy. Everyone who has tried a new trick on a skateboard knows you don’t do anything right on the first try. Most tricks look like this: Try Fail Try Fail Try Fail x 1000 The persistence of skateboarders is unmatched in any sport or activity, and it’s life application is clear. The next school project that seems impossible to finish, the next work day that seems like it will never end, or the next relationship that needs to be strengthened - all of these will require persistence to prevail. Finally Understand How To Ollie

Jump with your front foot first. I don’t know why it took me so long to get that but this whole time I’ve been lifting both feet simultaneously, resulting in either not enough “pop” or I’m not able to slide my foot forward in time. Thanks wikihow for explaining it better than any YouTube video I’ve seen. Video with progress coming soon, keep grinding! p.s. keep an eye on my good skate blog for a more polished version of this one.
Why skateboarding? I think the reason is obvious, because it's cool. There's something that just draws you in to skateboarding. The history of anti-everything attitude, the anything goes style, the smooth rides and risk of breaking bones just communicate "cool" to anyone watching. So why a skateboarding blog? I recently picked up skateboarding after 10+ years without it. I think of this blog as a public journal of my skateboarding journey. This is how I can document the progress and hopefully others can do the same. If you haven't already, get a skateboard and go outside. If you have a skateboard, go outside.
